Prince Harry dubs Oprah one of his ‘fairy godmothers’ as he and Meghan Markle party it up with A-listers including Ellen DeGeneres and Jane Lynch – ahead of a bookstore opening by their dear California pals (and the Duke of Sussex even inspired its name!)
Prince Harry has called Oprah Winfrey one of his “fairy godmothers.” The night before, he and Meghan Markle celebrated with Chappell Roan and Carole King, giving a speech at the opening of a bookstore in Summerland, near Montecito. The store takes its name from the Duke himself.
The Sussexes enjoyed an evening with ‘friends and family’ of literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and cosmetician Victoria Jackson on Friday, September 6. Magazine City and Country revealed – where they hugged longtime friend Oprah and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with A-listers including Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Lynch and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
According to the news agency, the royal couple arrived in a “dark Range Rover” and warmly welcomed the other guests.
After Jennifer and Victoria exchanged a few brief words with their intimate audience, Meghan, 43, dressed in a chic Ralph Lauren top and matching white pants, was heard to shout, “Woo!”
Photos from the event show a grinning and glamorous Duchess embracing the talk show host who interviewed them for their spectacular 2021 broadcast.

When asked elsewhere for book recommendations, the prince is said to have jokingly referred to a copy of his memoirs – Spare.
Victoria, who has been close to the royal couple since they arrived in California four years ago, said: “For them to be here now and be in a safe environment… that’s what we want.”
She added: “Their support and the light it will shine on the godmothers is pretty special.”
The magazine also revealed that Prince Harry, 39, played a role in coming up with the bookstore’s name. At his own book party in Beverly Hills, he thanked Oprah, Victoria and Jennifer for being his “fairy godmothers.”
It is therefore not surprising that Spare is proudly and prominently displayed in the shop, together with his wife’s children’s book, The Bench.
Oprah’s sensational interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – shortly after they stepped down as senior royals – caused a stir at The Firm when it aired in 2021.
It confirmed the notorious American talk show host, 70 and present at their 2018 wedding, as an ally of the Sussexes during their rift with King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
“I support them 1,000 percent,” she said of the couple’s move from the United Kingdom and their step back from royal duties.

But while the relationship seemed to remain warm – the presenter even saw Harry and Meghan as neighbours in Montecito – there have been rumours over the years that the couple were being ‘dropped like flies’ by Hollywood stars like Oprah.
But a recent reunion between the Duchess and the American TV legend suggests all seems to be well.
Jennifer also shared a personal joke with the Duke when she spoke about learning from people both younger and older than us, joking that “once he “When she turns 40, she needs to find new people who are in their 30s!”
On Saturday, Meghan looked typically chic as she spoke at her good friend Oprah Winfrey’s book club session.
The Duchess of Sussex looked dapper as she attended the event at Godmothers bookstore.
The mother of two kept it simple and elegant in a sleeveless, collared jumpsuit from Canadian brand Club Monaco, which specializes in luxury casual wear.
Harry and Meghan’s friendship appears to have been rekindled when they sent their wedding invitation to Oprah, including the evening reception at Frogmore House, which was attended only by their closest family and friends
In January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan fled the royal family and the United Kingdom to start their new life in America. And a year later, some 50 million people around the world watched as the duo took part in an 85-minute interview with Oprah on March 7, 2021
She paired it with minimal accessories, including her £5,000 Cartier Love bracelet, which she’s had since 2017, her Logan Hollowell diamond tennis chain and Princess Diana’s £17,800 ($22,950) Cartier Tank Française watch.
To add even more length to her elegant look, Meghan wore her Jimmy Choo Etana 50mm sandals in brown and tortoiseshell.
Magazine City and Country revealed that Meghan thanked Jennifer and Victoria for “not just creating the space, but for holding the space for so many people to feel seen through the pages, whether in laughter, in sadness, in feeling less alone.”
But like her good friend Oprah, the Duchess had to leave the “incredible” event early because she had to “make dinner for the kids.”
Speaking of godmothers on her InstagramJennifer said, “I love it. People come in here and the phrase we hear over and over again is, ‘I don’t know why, but this makes me want to cry.’
‘And then I have to cry, because I know why: we put so much love and attention into everything.
‘It’s like – you know, when you take a bite of a cake and you think, why is this so good? Oh, is it the butter? Well, the butter is the love in this and it’s buttery and delicious.
“And people feel that and feel like they’ve found a home away from home.”
