Prince Edward hugs daughter Lady Louise Windsor, 20, after she wins second place in the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials

Lady Louise Windsor came second in the pony novice event at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials, supported by her devoted father, Prince Edward.

It was Louise’s first time competing in the event on Sunday, where she won an impressive silver medal.

Just two weeks ago Louise, 20, was waving to crowds from a horse-drawn carriage at Trooping the Colour, but now it’s her turn to get behind the wheel.

The Sandringham Trials were first initiated in 1982 by Louise’s grandfather, Prince Phillip, who wanted to bring one of his favorite sports to one of his favorite places and that always takes place the weekend after Royal Ascot.

The eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sophie, prefers to keep out of the spotlight when it comes to royal events and chooses not to use her HM title.

During her driving event on Sunday, Louise was joined by her father, who watched eagerly from the sidelines as his daughter competed in the driving event with one of the Queen’s ponies.

Louise, who is 16th in line to the throne, wore a smart tweed blazer with a shirt and tie underneath. She wore gloves with beige and orange seams, a hard riding hat and cream-colored riding breeches.

After receiving a blue ribbon for her second place in the driving competition, Louise was warmly embraced by her father, who proudly wrapped his arms around his daughter from the carriage seat.

The 20-year-old royal was joined by her friend on the first day of the Sandringham driving trials on Friday Felix da Silva-Clamp, who cheered her on during her first competition.

The couple are said to have met at St Andrews University in Scotland, where Lady Louise was studying English literature.

Pictures posted on Facebook show the couple taking a selfie and posing together at a student’s theater party in St Andrews.

Lady Louise, who took part in a dressage competition on Friday with one of the Queen’s ponies, wore a black helmet, a beautiful beige coat and matching gloves.

Dressed in grey chinos and a blue jacket, Mr da Silva-Clamp was seen arriving at the event with Lady Louise’s mother, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, 59. She was dressed casually in khaki skinny jeans, a khaki jacket and a light blue jumper.

Lady Louise, the king’s niece, has been spotted a few times at driving competitions after making her debut in the sport at the age of 17 three years ago.

Her passion for carriage driving was sparked by the late Prince Philip, who loved the sport and encouraged her to take up it. Phillip had taken up the sport at the age of 50 after he could no longer play his favorite sport, polo.

He had a special bond with Lady Louise over the sport and left her his carriage when he passed away in 2021.

The young royal paid tribute to her grandfather’s legacy by taking part in a carriage event in April last year, on the weekend of the anniversary of his death.
