Hairy heirs! From Prince Charles’ beard in 1976 to William’s unshaven look in Olympic video with Kate… the royals who have flaunted impressive facial hair

Prince William showed off his new beard last month in a video for Team GB, alongside the Princess of Wales.

The 42-year-old Prince of Wales looked rather unshaven as he praised British Olympians after the Paris Games.

However, it wasn’t the first time William had been seen with a beard. In 2008, when he was 26, he sported one when he attended the Christmas service at Sandringham.

King Charles occasionally sported an impressive beard in his younger years, including in 1976. And his brother Prince Andrew sported a thick stubble in 1983.

Prince Harry has sported a beard for years, but claims in his memoir Spare that his facial hair led to a feud with his brother before he married Meghan Markle in 2018.

He claimed William was “furious” when his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, gave Harry permission to keep his beard for the wedding.

Overseas, King Felipe of Spain, among others, has had a beard for several years now, as have King Frederik of Denmark and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

It looks like the beard is here to stay, as Prince William visited the Saatchi Gallery to view Homelessness: Reframed, a groundbreaking exhibition
