Prince Andrew ‘tearful’ after Charles said he would NEVER return to Royal duties

Prince Andrew was ‘in tears’ after a tense personal meeting with Charles, the then Prince of Wales, who told his younger brother he will never return to royal duties, a source claimed.

The Duke of York believes that despite his association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, he “can still be of value” as a working member of the royal family and has lobbied vigorously to resume his former roles.

But The Mail on Sunday understands that these hopes were crushed at a private early morning meeting at Charles’s Birkhall estate in Scotland, just days before the Queen’s death.

No one else was present during the discussions, described as ’emotional and emotionally charged’.

“Andrew was totally taken aback,” a source told The MoS, adding that the decision has left the duke involved for him.

“He’s been completely robbed. He always believed there was a way back.’

There will be further evidence of the Duke’s isolation next Sunday, when he will be absent from the memorial day at The Cenotaph – the first in 70 years without Queen Elizabeth II.

Stripped of his official duties, he no longer has a role to play.

“Andrew was very close to the Queen and tried to raise the issue of his return to public life with her many times,” the source said.

“Andrew was very close to the Queen and tried to raise the issue of his return to public life with her many times,” a source told the Mail on Sunday.

“Sometimes she said slightly conciliatory things, but most of the time she changed the subject right away.”

Obviously, most of the leading figures in the royal family thought the matter had been settled – that there was no going back. Yet Andrew had not understood this.

“Naive as it may sound, he always had hopes of regaining his position as senior royal,” the source continues.

‘During the meeting, Charles told him that he can have a good life, a beautiful life, but his public life as a royal has come to an end.

Andrew, 62, was stripped of his military ties and royal patronage in January after losing his bid to quash a civil lawsuit in America brought by Jeffrey Epstein’s former “sex slave” Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced to have sex with the Duke which he vehemently denied.

The Duke settled the civil case in February for a reported £12 million without accepting liability and had thought it would allow him to return.

Prince Andrew is accused of not performing charity work despite pledges to do so following a settlement with Virginia Giuffre – as seen on his weekly horseback ride

Prince Andrew is accused of not having done any charity work yet, despite his commitment to make amends for his sexual abuse scandal.

It has been reported that the disgraced Duke of York has instead been playing golf, horse riding and enjoying life at his home, the Royal Lodge.

The Duke was in fact pictured today during his weekly ride in Windsor, where his horse was seen with a poppy attached to his bridle.

The 62-year-old’s royal career ended in disgrace after he was ordered to pay millions of pounds to prosecutor Virginia Giuffre in an out-of-court settlement earlier this year.

She claimed he sexually assaulted her three times in 2001 when she was 17 after she was trafficked by disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, though Andrew has consistently denied any allegation.

The settlement was not an admission of liability, but the Queen’s supposedly favored son was stripped of his royal patronage and military honors.

At the time of Andrew’s settlement, a statement said the Duke would repent by “supporting the fight against the evils of the sex trade and supporting its victims.”

And a friend said there were “a number of charitable proposals under active consideration.”

However, the latest allegations of the Sun claim that many proposals to continue charitable work have ‘stalled’ after permission was sought from Buckingham Palace.

Nigel Cawthorne, author of Prince Andrew: Epstein, Maxwell and the Palace, said, “Can’t he find a charity somewhere in the world that wants him?

“His reputation can’t get any worse and it’s a blemish on the skin, but charity work will take the edge off and show a little remorse.”

Sources claim the prince has “lost focus” after his attempts were regularly blocked.

Andrew was dragged further back into the Epstein scandal last month after pedophile conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell hailed the Duke of York as a “best friend.”

Her amazing comments – in an exclusive in-prison interview with The Mail on Sunday – contradict Andrew’s denial to a US court that they had been close.

Maxwell, who was convicted of helping Epstein abuse teenage girls, ignored the suggestion that she and Andrew had been a couple, stating, “I care about him.”

At one point, Prince Andrew was a patron of hundreds of charities and other agencies, but he was stripped of his remaining patrons after the palace said he would not perform “public duties” at the beginning of the year.

A spokesman for the Duke of York declined to comment.
