Prince Andrew is “ready to sue for $100 million” if his accuser, Virginia Roberts, repeats her claims against him in her next book.

Prince Andrew is set to launch a $100 million lawsuit against his accuser, Virginia Roberts, if she repeats sexual claims against him in her next memoir.

Legal sources close to the Prince, who consulted US lawyers in a bid to void a deal he reached with Ms Roberts last year, say he will “strike” if she repeats the allegations.

The Duke of York has hired powerful Los Angeles lawyers Andrew Brettler and Blair Berk to try to get Ms Roberts to recant any claims and possibly get an apology. Last night, a source familiar with the case told this newspaper: “The moment she writes anything repeating the original claims against him, she will face a $100m (£81m) libel suit.” Andrew and their lawyers are ready to strike. Then their claims will be examined for the first time in a court of law.

Ms Roberts’ lawyers declined to comment last night, but a source close to her insists her deal with the duke does not prevent her from writing about him, saying: “She will be able to talk about Prince Andrew.”

Ms Roberts, now 39 and going by her married name of Giuffre, claimed she was forced to have sex with the Prince when she was 17, after being trafficked by convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In the settlement reached last February, Andrew did not accept any fault and continues to vigorously deny any wrongdoing. He reportedly paid her £12m, but experts say the figure was closer to £3m.

His mood is said to have been “buoyed” by a settlement reached between Ms Roberts and US lawyer Alan Dershowitz in November, in which she admitted she “might have made a mistake” in accusing Mr Dershowitz of Abuse her.

Mr Dershowitz said last night: “Virginia Giuffre has now finally acknowledged that she may have made a mistake and I hope this can help bring to light the truth about other allegations, including the Prince.”
