Prime Minister Modi praises former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his farewell speech to the retiring MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, while farewelling the outgoing members in Rajya Sabha, praised the “immense contribution” of his predecessor Manmohan Singh.

“I want to remember Dr. Manmohan Singh today; his contribution in the House of Representatives, with his valuable thoughts, both as leader and in opposition, has been enormous. The way he has led this House and country for so long has made Dr. Manmohan Singh will always be remembered for it,” Prime Minister Modi said during his speech in the House of Lords.

In his speech in Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Modi praised former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s commitment to his duties as a parliamentarian. “No matter who he supported, I believe he supported our democracy,” Prime Minister Modi said.

In August 2023, Manmohan Singh had arrived in Rajya Sabha in a wheelchair to cast his vote on the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment Bill), 2023.

Recalling the incident, Prime Minister Modi said in his speech today: “Dr. Manmohan Singh ji came to Parliament in a wheelchair. How aware is he of his responsibilities, not only this, I watched, whenever committee elections were held, he came to vote, the question is not to whom he came to give strength, I believe, to give strength to the democracy.”

Outgoing Rajya Sabha members will attend a farewell meeting at Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar’s residence in the national capital this evening.

Parliament will today continue the discussion on the interim Union Budget for 2024-25 and the interim budget of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ongoing budget sessions of Parliament have been extended by a day to February 10 to table a white paper on the state of the economy before and after 2014, when the BJP came to power after defeating the Congress-led UPA .

According to today’s list of cases in the House of Representatives, Union Minister Bupender Yadav will move a motion for election to the Central Advisory Committee today.
