President Droupadi Murmu laid a wreath at the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington, New Zealand on Thursday.
President Murmu, who is currently on a three-country tour, reached New Zealand on Wednesday.
Earlier today, New Zealand Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro warmly welcomed President Murmu, who was welcomed with a traditional Maori “Powhiri” ceremony in Wellington. She was also given the Guard of Honour.
In a post on X, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said: “Energising India – New Zealand partnership! President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn warmly received by New Zealand Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro at Government House, Wellington. The President was welcomed with a traditional Maori “Powhiri” ceremony. She was also appointed the Royal Guard of Honour.”
During her state visit, President Murmu will meet New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, hold an education conference and interact with the Indian community and friends of India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
Before going to New Zealand, the President visited Fiji, where she received Fiji’s highest civilian honour: ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji.’
President Murmu called it an honour that reflects the deep ties of friendship between the two countries.
In a message on X, the President of India said: “President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere of Fiji has conferred the Companion of the Order of Fiji on President Droupadi Murmu. This is Fiji’s highest civilian honour. President Murmu said this honour is a reflection of the deep ties of friendship between India and Fiji.”
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Murmu left New Delhi on Sunday for a six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand and East Timor.
In the final part of her tour, President Murmu will travel to East Timor at the invitation of East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta, after which she will have a meeting place on August 10.
