Emmanuel Macron has laughed at a joke by autistic journalists about his wife Brigitte.
The 45-year-old French president met his wife Brigitte, 69, when she was teaching the then-15-year-old literature at their La Providence secondary school.
She was asked about their romance during a session with autistic interviewers from Le Papotin, a news outlet founded in 1990 in a Paris nursery for young people living with autism.
Embarrassed by one of the questions written on a card, the onstage interviewer handed the note to Macron to read aloud himself.
One of the interviewers accepts an offer from the French president to read the daring question himself.
Reading the card to the group of journalists, Macron says out loud that the president should set an example and not marry his teacher.
Asking the question to himself, the president said: ‘He is the president. You should be exemplary and not marry your teacher.
The question was met with laughter among the interviewers, described by the outlet as “atypical journalists” and renowned for asking such daring questions.
In response, Macron said: “You don’t choose who you fall in love with.” She wasn’t really my teacher, she taught me drama. That does not count.
His response to the question was met with laughter, with a reporter sitting nearby pointing at the president and jokingly saying, “That was a smart answer.”
Macron replied: ‘It’s true! You’re already undoing my answers.
The question is answered with laughter, before Macron goes on to explain that “you don’t choose who you fall in love with.”

Looking towards the journalist, he jokes: ‘I’m trying to negotiate.’
During the meeting, Macron was also asked if he “has a lot of dough”, to which the president said that he now earns less than in his previous role as a banker.
And about the friendships in the lead role, he added: “It’s not the best job to have a lot of friends.”
Thanking the journalists at the end of the interview, he continued: “Your questions took me to areas where I hadn’t been in other interviews, with other journalists.”
