Presenters Kelly Cates, Hayley McQueen and Christine Lampard set to launch new Overlap podcast series ‘Not Just Football’- as the trio aim to build on the successes Gary Neville’s ‘Stick to Football’ show

Sky Sports presenters Kelly Cates and Hayley McQueen will launch a new Overlap podcast series called ‘Not Just Football’ with ITV’s Christine Lampard on October 8.

The trio will host a weekly show in which they respond to football’s biggest talking points from a unique angle, while sharing their expertise from their experiences within the game.

The series will also cover a variety of different topics outside of sports, with the presenters interviewing experts and stars from different backgrounds.

Cates and McQueen’s relationship dates back to their childhood, as their father’s Kenny Dalglish and Gordon McQueen played together with the Scotland national team in the 1970s and 1980s.

With Lampard – the wife of Chelsea legend Frank – joining them The overlap‘s newest venture brought to you by Sky betthe presenters hope their chemistry will bring a new perspective to football podcasting.

The Overlap have had success with ‘Stick to Football’, hosted by Gary Neville and other stars

“What we’re looking for is something from weekend football that isn’t necessarily covered elsewhere,” Cates told Mail Sport. ‘There are so many football podcasts and it’s very difficult to find something that hasn’t been done already.

‘So it’s not about analysis. It’s not necessarily about a deep dive into the tactics of the North London Derby or whatever, but it’s more about the stories surrounding it.’

‘Not Just Football’ marks the latest effort from the Overlap producing Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet.

With their latest project looking to ride the wave of success of the award-winning show, hosted by Gary Neville, McQueen believes now is the right time to release the podcast.

The Sky Sports presenter told Mail Sport: ‘It came out [how] I’ve worked with a lot of the guys from Buzz and the guys who work on the Overlap and Stick to Football and I love what they do.

“I was like, ‘There’s a place for this,’ as three women discussed topics and things in a slightly different way. We are not ex-footballers. We’re all connected to ex-footballers or current managers or whatever, and we all have a lot in common.”

Cates has worked with the Overlap in recent years, hosting their live shows as Neville, Jamie Carragher and Co travel the country interacting with fans.

Kenny Dalglish’s daughter Cates has said the podcast will be different from others

The 48-year-old has a strong relationship with Stick to Football presenters Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher thanks to his partnership with Sky Sports

The 48-year-old has built a strong relationship with the pair of former football stars turned pundits by regularly working with them for Sky over the past decade.

And while she believes it’s too early for ‘Not Just Football’ to rival her colleague’s podcast, Cates sees no reason why it can’t emulate their success in the future.

‘[Stick to Football] is one of my favorites because I know them off camera and on camera, I see them from both sides,” Cates explains.

“What I really like about it is the moments where you see them and their personalities and their relationships. So I think that’s definitely something we hope to build on.

‘It would be a bit brave of us to tackle them early. But maybe once we’re a bit more established, you can think about setting up a little rivalry.”

Meanwhile, McQueen believes the backgrounds of Cates, Lampard and herself will make for a different kind of podcast to that of Neville and Carragher.

Hayley is the daughter of former Scotland and Man United player Gordon McQueen, who sadly passed away last year

Christine is Frank Lampard’s wife and could provide insight into life with a top player

“We’re very different from that,” McQueen added. “We’ve all been through very different things in life, and I think we’ll talk very openly about some of the challenges we’ve faced in our personal lives and in our careers.

‘We’re not going to stand there like three women pretending. It won’t be like Loose Women, that’s for sure.

“I think it will be very, very different to the current Stick to Football because none of us have played, but we have all been influenced by the game in different ways.”
