Prepare for the PS5 Pro by purchasing a disc drive now

If you already know you’re going to buy a PlayStation 5 Pro, then Also You probably already know that you’ll need a disc drive to play Blu-ray games and movies. Luckily, the existing PS5 disc drive mount is compatible with the more powerful model, so you can pick that up ahead of its September 26 pre-order and November 7 launch.

This may seem a little early to consider peripherals, but Wario64 on X (formerly Twitter) notedThe drive has risen to the 8th spot on Amazon’s list of best-selling video game products since the Sony Technical Presentationand as I write this, Best buy is sold out for shipping (though in-store pickup may be available depending on your location). There’s still plenty of time for all retailers to get more stock, of course, but given this initial and immediate demand, it might be best to invest early in case you want to make sure your physical copies of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth And Horizon Forbidden West will be playable from day one.

As for other accessories, there’s yet to be official confirmation whether the existing PS5 vertical stand will also work with the PS5 Pro, but it’s do look very similar. We’ve reached out to Sony to confirm. In the meantime, if you want to play it safe – or if you have an existing PS5 and are looking for a little nudge to stand it upright – you can also check out the official vertical standard for $29.99 or one of many third party options for a little less.

…And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you that the adorable Astro Bot controller, like all PS5 controllers, is compatible with the Pro console. Unfortunately, it still appears to be sold out everywhere at the time of writing, but we’ll keep an eye on it and let you know if that changes.
