Premier League pair are arrested over rape: Football stars, both aged 19, are questioned by detectives who raided team’s stadium after alleged offence reported to police

A pair of Premier League footballers have been arrested after rape was reported to police.

The two unnamed footballers are from the same club and were arrested this weekend after the alleged offense was reported to police, The Sun reported.

One player, 19, was reportedly approached by police on suspicion of assault and complicity in a rape before being formally arrested. He was interviewed by detectives under caution after spending a night in jail.

The other player, who is also 19, was arrested the next day and later questioned by officers on suspicion of rape.

Both players have now reportedly been released on bail pending further investigations, the newspaper said.

A police spokesperson told The Sun: ‘Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape.

‘A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and complicity in rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

‘Both men have now been released on police bail.’

A source also told The Sun that police arrived at the stadium and spoke to one of the players in ‘a private room in the ground’.

They added that he left the club with “another individual” and was formally arrested later that evening.

A club spokesman told The Sun: ‘As the matter is now in the hands of police, the football club will have no further comment at this stage.’
