A Premier League footballer has been ‘released under investigation’ over the alleged rape of three women following his arrest last summer.
The sportsman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was initially arrested in North London on July 4, 2022 on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.
In the following days, a second rape allegation was made in connection with an incident in 2021, before a third woman came forward in February 2023.
The footballer was questioned by the police under caution about the crime, which is said to have taken place in February 2022.
The top star continued to play last season after multiple bail extensions, the last of which was in July.

He applied for his bail terms earlier this week, but has since been told he has no specific date to report to police in the future.
As a result, the star is embarking on a second season “under investigation,” with the new campaign kicking off next weekend.
There is no timetable for making a decision in this matter.
A statement from the Met Police on 3 August read: ‘On 4 July 2022, a rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to the police.
It was reported that the alleged rape took place in June 2022. On July 4, 2022, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.

While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two rape incidents allegedly committed in April and June 2021 against another woman in her 20s.
‘In February 2023, the man was interrogated under caution for a sexual offense that allegedly took place in Barnet in February 2022. This concerns a third victim and was reported to the police in July 2022. the alleged crime in June 2021.
This has been explained to the complainant who is still assisted by agents. The man was released on bail until August 2023. He was subsequently released pending further investigation.’
