Premier League fans have taken to social media to express their shock as Stuart Attwell allowed Bernd Leno to stay on the pitch despite a knee to the face from Luis Diaz.

The pair collided, with Leno's right eye appearing to close after the incident.

However, he played on before Alexis Mac Allister scored a sensational strike on him to restore Liverpool's first-half lead.

Fans have since taken to social media to debate the referee's decision, as many believe he should have been forced off.

“How is it possible that Leno is still on the field with one functioning eye?” one fan asked.

The incident happened in the first half, where the goalkeeper was allowed to continue

After the treatment, Leno was back on his feet, but had a noticeably swollen eye

Several other supporters agreed with the sentiment, with one attempting to reach Fulham and the FA on X.

They wrote: Leno must be removed.

“He has an early panda eye sign of his right eye. He needs to be assessed in hospital and appropriate scans will be required.”

Another fan couldn't believe what he saw and said: 'How did the refs let Leno play there? He can't see out of his right eye!'

Leno was urged to rest by a Tottenham fan who was watching the match before his side faced Manchester City.

“Leno can't even open his right eye, just rest bro,” he wrote.

Another felt sympathy for the goalkeeper when he said: 'I feel sorry for Leno. He uses his eyes to keep shots away from Mac Allister, Szobo and Trent!'

However, not everyone was as concerned about Fulham's goalscorer as one Liverpool fan urged his side to take advantage of the goalkeeper's struggles.

'Mo and braid need Darwin to score, they said.

“Leno has one eye, there are no excuses.”
