Premier League clubs are ‘monitoring Mason Greenwood’s loan spell at Getafe’ as Spanish side are keen to sign exiled Manchester United forward but face competition from LaLiga rivals

  • Mason Greenwood was loaned from Getafe by Manchester United in September
  • The former England international scored four goals in eleven games
  • It’s ridiculous to see Steve Cooper under pressure at Nottingham Forest. He’s the best since Brian Clough… It all starts

According to reports in Spain, a number of Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on Mason Greenwood’s performances at Getafe.

The 22-year-old was arrested in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape and assault and was suspended while being paid by Manchester United.

However, the charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February after ‘key witnesses’ withdrew their involvement.

Following a lengthy internal investigation, United announced in August that Greenwood would not play for them as they prioritized ‘well-being, wishes and perspective’.

The England international sealed a move to Getafe the following month and attracted interest from a number of English teams.

According to Spanish outlet IFSeveral scouts from Premier League clubs have seen Greenwood in action at the Estadio Coliseum.

No Premier League clubs showed interest in Greenwood this summer, but he did receive inquiries from clubs in Italy and Turkey.

The forward scored four goals and provided three assists in 11 games for Getafe in all competitions, helping the Azulones to eighth place in LaLiga with 19 points in 14 games.

On Saturday, Greenwood scored with a spectacular effort from outside the penalty area to level the score against Almeria in Getafe’s 2-1 win.

And Getafe Are interested in extending his stay in Spain, by concluding a longer loan agreement or signing him permanently.

Earlier this month it was reported that Getafe executives were keen to open negotiations with United to extend Greenwood’s spell at the club. According to The AthleticsA meeting between Getafe and United is scheduled for April.

But according to The sunGetafe could face competition from Valencia and Real Sociedad, both of whom are eyeing the United loanee.

Greenwood’s £75,000-a-week contract (part of which is paid by Getafe) with United runs until 2025, but a return to Old Trafford seems unlikely given the level of adversity the club faced when planning to re-sign him to be integrated into the selection. .

Greenwood has settled in Spain with his partner and daughter The Athletics reported this week that the former England international has taken Spanish lessons to communicate more effectively with his teammates.

A product of United’s academy, Greenwood has made 129 appearances for the club and scored 35 goals. His last appearance was the 1-0 win over West Ham on January 22, 2022.
