Premier League clubs ‘agree to significant rule change’ relating to summer transfer window

  • Premier League club owners met at a meeting in central London on Thursday
  • It is said that they have agreed to close the summer transfer window earlier next year
  • The new deadline will reportedly be August 15, before the 2025-2026 season begins

The owners of the twenty Premier League clubs met for the first time this season on Thursday during a meeting in central London.

While the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules were likely to be of interest to those in attendance, there was much more on the agenda.

A number of undisclosed proposed rule changes, including one relating to the Premier League’s ‘database’, were scrapped following feedback from clubs.

However, according to The Sunday timesthe twenty clubs agreed to a significant change regarding transfer windows.

It is said that from next season the summer transfer window for Premier League clubs will close before the first match of the season.

Under this new agreement, the deadline for next summer would be August 15.

However, Mail Sport understands that the issue has not yet been voted on by the clubs and is yet to be officially ratified.

The ticket office closed this year on August 30, two weeks after the season started.

Premier League clubs are reportedly hopeful that other top leagues in Europe will now follow suit to avoid a situation where English clubs could sell players but not buy players in the second half of August.
