Pregnant Princess Beatrice told not to fly abroad by her doctors – as she is forced to scrap plans to jet overseas for Christmas at in-laws’ 18th Century Italian mansion

Pregnant Princess Beatrice has been ordered by doctors to stay home in Britain over Christmas because traveling would put her baby at risk.

The late queen’s granddaughter planned to spend Christmas abroad with the family of her property tycoon husband for the first time since their wedding in 2020.

But Buckingham Palace last night announced that the 36-year-old princess, who is in the final months of her second pregnancy, has changed her party plans following medical advice that she should not travel ‘long distances’.

On October 1, the palace announced that Princess Beatrice was expecting the baby “in early spring.” She is now in the third trimester of her pregnancy, which starts from 28 weeks.

Dr. Ellie Cannon, Mail on Sunday columnist and GP, said: ‘There are a whole host of reasons why someone might not be able to fly in the third trimester.

‘Several acute problems can be common, such as a respiratory infection or even a viral illness, which can be quite serious during pregnancy. Flying can make this worse due to dehydration and sitting still for hours, which can also increase the risk of blood clots.

‘More long-term problems could be high blood pressure or diabetes. Long-distance travel can be dangerous in this scenario due to the constant monitoring required.”

The princess is now celebrating at Sandringham with the royal family, along with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 40, her stepson Wolfie, eight, and daughter Sienna, three. She is not expected to go to church with the family on Christmas morning.

The Princess has recently attended other public events, including the pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

It is not known exactly where Beatrice planned to travel to spend Christmas, but it was reported that she planned to celebrate with her in-laws.

Her husband, Mr. Mapelli Mozzi, better known as Edo, is the son of former Olympic skier Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi and Nikki Williams-Ellis. The family owns an 18th-century mansion an hour from Lake Como in northern Italy.

Princess Beatrice and Eugenie normally spend Christmas at Sandringham, but this year they both planned to celebrate with their in-laws.

Princess Eugenie, 34, is still planning to visit the family of husband Jack Brooksbank, 38.

Both daughters will not spend their day with their parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who will be at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

It is understood Sarah helped convince Andrew to lay low over Christmas after he became embroiled in a scandal over his links to a Chinese spy.
