Last month, Megan announced she was expecting her first child with footballer fiance Oliver Burke, after undergoing IVF therapy.
The reality star revealed on Instagram that she had undergone IVF to become pregnant after announcing she was expecting the week before.
In the caption, the reality star explained that the couple had been unable to conceive naturally and had gone to a fertility clinic.
Megan said they discovered her uterine lining was too thin, even though she had been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) at a younger age.
She decided to freeze her eggs and thicken her uterine lining before implanting an embryo, requiring injections every day for months.
She wrote: ‘We tried it naturally for a while and didn’t get pregnant. I wanted to make sure everything was okay in there, so we decided to go to a fertility clinic. When I was younger I was diagnosed with PCOS and knew I would have to freeze my eggs at some point.
‘We went and had a scan and tests and it showed my ovaries were fine but my uterine lining was thin! It was at 5am when it should have been at 8am, and there were a number of other issues that we needed help with.
‘I’m so glad we went to a fertility clinic, otherwise I would never have known because my lining wouldn’t have been thick enough to make a successful implantation.
Last month, the reality star revealed on Instagram that she had undergone IVF to become pregnant, after announcing she was expecting the week before.
‘We spoke to our doctor and decided to freeze our embryos first and also have one implanted as soon as my mucous membrane was the right thickness and was nice and healthy.
‘I started with medication three times a day and twice with injections and pessaries for extra progesterone.’
However, Megan explained that as a result of the hormone medication, she developed ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which caused her severe pain and required her to be hospitalized for almost an entire week.
She said: ‘After months of getting my lining right, I went in for an egg harvest. Everything went great, we got so many eggs and Oli did his part.
‘A few days later I started feeling unwell and it turned out I had OHSS. About hyperstimulation of my overies.
‘Very painful and dangerous as my ovaries were HUGE! I had fluid in my stomach causing my stomach to swell and I couldn’t walk it was so painful.
“Some people just get it. I was hospitalized for 6 days and was now put on blood thinners to make sure nothing else bad happened.
‘Unfortunately we didn’t get many embryos in the end 🙁 they didn’t survive the thawing process.. but we got enough to make this possible… A few months after I got myself better and fitter!!
‘We decided it was time to have our AAA embryo implanted! It was incredible. I was back on medication and injections because my uterine lining had dropped again. I was back on medication and injections because my uterine lining had dropped again. I also took baby aspirin to prevent a miscarriage.’
She explained: ‘A month later, when my lining was fine, we had our baby put in. It was the most magical experience watching it go inside me and be safely placed with embryo glue to make sure it stuck! & it did!’
Megan and Oliver got engaged in June last year, just five months into their relationship, after the footballer popped the question during a romantic getaway to Montenegro.
