Pregnant Megan McKenna reveals she was rushed to hospital after having a ‘painful’ allergic reaction which caused her tongue and neck to ‘double in size’ as she gives a health update

Megan McKenna gave a health update on Instagram on Thursday, revealing she was rushed to hospital after suffering a severe allergic reaction.

The reality star and singer, 31, who is pregnant with her first child, revealed she had a massive ‘scare’ earlier this week when she woke up to find her tongue and throat swollen after a reaction to medication from the dentist.

Megan explained to her fans in a candid video that she was in “so much pain” because her tongue “doubled in size,” prompting her to seek medical attention.

The former TOWIE star described the reaction as ‘the worst thing ever’ and said she believes her ‘pregnancy has made her body more sensitive’.

While sitting in a car, Megan said, “I just want to give you an update, so yesterday I was in the emergency room and I woke up in the morning and my tongue had doubled in size and my neck and throat were swollen.

“It gave me trouble swallowing and stuff, it was so scary.”

She continued: ‘The day before I called 911 and they sent a paramedic over and they sent me to an emergency dentist where they prescribed me metronidazole and I took that for a day, but as soon as I started taking it I started feeling strange.

‘My neck started to hurt, the swelling got worse, I was sick and so yesterday they told me to call 999 if my swelling got worse, obviously because it can stop you breathing.

‘When the paramedics came they said I could be having a secondary reaction because my tongue was really, really swollen, so they had to leave me in hospital to give me everything they needed.

‘When I got there they gave me steroids and I’ve been on them for a few days now. They gave me an antihistamine and they changed my antibiotics. I’m on another one now.

‘I had a root canal and now it’s all about getting better, like it’s that bad. I just think that pregnancy has made my body much more sensitive, I’m allergic to so many things.’

She concluded: ‘Anyway I’ve been in so much pain, I’ve been on codeine and paracetamol and I’m still in pain. Honestly, worst ever and I wouldn’t wish for it anyway.

‘I’ve literally been eating baby food for the past few days, cut up, to try to get some nutrients. But that’s the update and I’m still swollen in my neck and under my tongue, but thankfully not nearly as bad as yesterday.

“I’m just praying that I get better in the next 24 hours.”

It comes days after Megan apologized for her unexplained absence from social media after going five days without posting to her Instagram feed, where she normally posts daily.

She revealed to her almost three million followers that this was because she was struggling with a painful absence.

Megan wrote on a black background: ‘Sorry I’ve been quite ill I’ve been really unwell I have an abscess [sic]which is the most painful thing I have ever experienced and I had an allergic reaction to the medicine I took for it.

‘It all led to severe swelling in and under my tongue and neck, which was very frightening. I can’t thank Birmingham City Hospital and the ambulance service enough for looking after me this morning.

‘The care I received was wonderful. I’m still recovering and still a little swollen, but I’m on the right meds to help with this. I wanted to get back to your dms because I know some of you are worried about me. Thank you for checking in.

Megan finished: ‘I’ll be posting some fun eating videos soon from before I became unwell that I never got around to posting… so I hope you enjoy them.’

The star is pregnant with her first child and it was announced on Friday that she will be selling her house.

She has put the luxury three-bedroom property up for sale as she prepares to make a permanent move from Essex to the Midlands with footballer fiance Oliver Burke.

The former TOWIE star has been renting out her home for £3,500 a month since October, but now she wants to cut ties completely ahead of the birth of her first baby.

Megan has lived in the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, complete with walk-in closet and cinema room, since 2016 and often shares videos from the spotlessly clean home with her 2.8 million fans.

After undergoing fertility treatment, Megan and Birmingham City footballer Oliver, 27, became pregnant and the country singer publicly thanked her ‘amazing’ doctors for the ‘magical experience’.

The sale of her house cements Megan’s move from Essex to the Midlands, where Oliver is based at the Championship club, as the engaged couple prepare to start a family together.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Megan hasn’t lived in the property since October, but now she’s finally ready to sell it and move away from Essex for good.

‘It has been a huge change for her, but the most exciting time is that she is expecting the baby of her dreams and can’t wait to start the next chapter of her life with Oliver.

‘She will always be an Essex girl at heart, but now she must say goodbye to the first house she bought herself as she prepares to become a mother and wife.’

In 2016, Megan bought the property in Loughton, the same year she starred in Celebrity Big Brother.
