A Queensland grandmother won a $10 million prize in last night’s Powerball draw.
The Mackay woman was the only national winner of Division 1 in Powerball draw 1469 held on Thursday.
The winning woman took a little longer to discover her new fortune, having missed several calls from The Lott earlier on Friday morning.
“Oh my God, I’m shaking,” she said, “I can’t believe it, I don’t know what to say.
‘When I woke up this morning I saw the missed calls but I thought it was a scam so I decided to leave it.
‘It wasn’t until I listened to your voicemail that I knew it wasn’t a scam and that something was up.’
She said the winnings would allow her to pay off her mortgage in full, pay her bills and buy a new car.
‘I would love to buy a Honda or Toyota with a bull bar as we really need them where we live. I am also going to slowly reduce my working hours and eventually retire.

‘I now have more time to spend with my grandchildren.
‘I almost didn’t buy a ticket because I was in a hurry on my way to work, but I’m so glad I did.’
The winning numbers were 17, 20, 9, 12, 19, 22, and 16. The Powerball number was 9.
Of the 20 Division 1 Powerball winners in 2023, eight came from New South Wales, seven from Victoria, two each from South Australia and Western Australia, and one from Queensland.
