Powerball makes 10 people from the small country town of Wentworth instant multimillionaires as the $40 million jackpot expires

A group of ten residents from a small country town became instant multimillionaires after claiming the $40 million Powerball jackpot.

The shopping syndicate from Wentworth on the NSW-Victoria border was the only First Division winner in Thursday night’s draw.

The entry also scored 19 wins in division two, four wins in division eight, and nine in division nine, bringing the group’s total windfall to $40,517,739.00.

Each member of the syndicate takes home $4,051,773.90.

Some are unaware of their life-changing windfall, as they were unregistered players.

The town of Wentworth in southwest NSW has a population of 1,500 and now has 10 millionaires

‘I just looked! I can not believe it!’ an excited winner told Lotto officials.

‘That’s really good!

“We’re just a small town and it’s crazy to think that there are ten multimillionaires here now.”

According to the 2021 census, Wentworth has a population of 1,500.

Lottery officials have urged Wentworth residents to monitor their lottery tickets as they try to track down the remaining members of the syndicate.

“While we are reaching out to the syndicate members who have registered their entries, there are a handful of people with unregistered entries who may not yet know they are part of this winning group,” said The Lott spokesman Matt Hart.

“These players don’t know each other because they simply bought a syndicate share from their local outlet, but now they have one thing in common: they are all multi-millionaires now.”

The winning PowerHit entry was purchased from Wentworth Lotto and News.

“Oh, that’s wonderful!” ecstatic owner Rowan Congress said.

“That’s great news for Wentworth. We are in the middle of nowhere!

“We’ve only been here for two years and this is the first first division win we’ve sold. How nice that it is a syndicate and that many people can share the prize.’

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1424 were 10, 35, 27, 32, 6, 14 and 31. The Powerball number was 6.

Next Thursday’s Powerball jackpot is $4 million.
