Potential Sheffield United owner Dozy Mmobuosi hires Deloitte to audit his companies
Sheffield United potential owner Dozy Mmobuosi hires Deloitte to audit his companies… as Nigerian IT mogul seeks more credibility in bid to buy Blades
- The world renowned firm is combing the Tingo Group of Nigeria.
- Financial results are expected in the coming weeks, revenue is likely to exceed €1 billion
- EFL owner and director testing has intensified in recent years.
Sheffield United’s prospective owner, Dozy Mmobuosi, has hired Deloitte to independently audit his group of companies.
The world-renowned auditing firm is reviewing Nigeria’s Tingo Group, which should lend more credibility to their bid to buy the Championship team.
Mmobuosi’s proposed takeover is with EFL, which requested more information about its bid to buy last month and is considering responses submitted within 48 hours of the request before deciding whether to ratify a sale.
Tingo’s financial results are expected in the coming weeks and revenue is likely to exceed one billion euros. Deloitte’s involvement is sure to be of interest to the EFL governance team, as well as Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Chairman Rick Parry.
Testing of EFL owners and directors has intensified in recent years and the league is using stricter measures to vette potential custodians, with no decision yet on Mmobuosi’s deal.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side booked a place in the FA Cup semi-final thanks to Tommy Doyle’s stoppage-time winner
However, the Blades cannot afford to let the takeover situation last much longer, with serious concerns about their financial future, despite the club’s excellent season on the ground.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side, second in the Championship, booked a place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a thrilling 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers at Bramall Lane thanks to Tommy Doyle’s stoppage-time goal.
Doyle, on loan from Manchester City, said: “The goal is up there, definitely, with the special meaning attached to it. It means a lot.’
Doyle’s grandparents, Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, lifted the FA Cup with City in 1969. “I want to create my own history,” said Doyle. We’re in the process of doing that right now, which is a great feeling, so hopefully we can go and win at Wembley.
‘The fans deserved it. They were amazing, they helped us a lot during the bad times we had in the game. When you’re behind and you have their support, it’s hard not to go and produce and we did.
Heckingbottom revealed last summer that he genuinely believed there was enough in his squad to pull off big honors this season.
“I’m really focused on us getting something done, not just earning some credit,” he said. ‘It’s a great thing with the journey we’ve been on. It is extending the trip. It could be an amazing season. Everyone should enjoy it.
“To get to April with the possibility of automatic promotion and still be in the FA Cup is everyone’s credit.”
