Port Pirie: Man whose body was found in the water near a popular boat ramp is identified
A man whose body was found in the water at a jetty in South Australia has been described as a “good guy” who would help anyone.
Simon Harris, 50, was found unconscious in the water at Solomontown in Port Piriebee Saturday at 6:00 am.
Mr Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. CCTV from a nearby business showed him alive just 30 minutes earlier.
His partner, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had been with him the night before and that he “seemed fine” at the time.
“He’s a good guy, he would help anyone, yeah, if you were down, he would help you, make you laugh, he cared about everyone,” the woman said. told Nine News.
“He was sober. He will be missed and by his family.”
According to the South African police, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage of the investigation, but the coroner has yet to determine a cause.
It is unclear how Mr Harris ended up in the water.

Officers took photos of a bicycle at the jetty, which Mr Harris is believed to have been riding before he died.
The area was briefly closed to the public on Saturday while investigators processed the crime scene and divers searched the water, but the area was reopened by mid-afternoon.
