Popular nudist resort in California goes up for sale for $32.8 million as owner wants to sell 88-year-old, 110-acre property because it’s too ‘stressful’

  • Historic nudist retreat Lupine Lodge in Los Gatos has hit the market
  • Lori Kay Stout put the property on the market after running it since 1977
  • The resort offers nude sports, swimming and sunbathing

A popular nudist resort in California dating back to the 1930s is for sale for $32.8 million.

Located in the Los Gatos Mountains, the 88-year-old resort covers 110 hectares and features a swimming pool, hot tub and multi-level sundeck.

But owner Lori Kay Stout has decided to sell the site because operating the site has become “too stressful.”

Founded in 1935, the resort existed in relative obscurity for decades before experiencing a surge in popularity in the mid-1960s.

Today, visitors can enjoy a range of nude sports and activities, including tennis, volleyball and yoga.

Admission costs between $25 and $40 for a day pass, with guests also offered nude meditation, massages and art classes.

The lot listing describes Lupine Lodge as having an “ideal location” with “park-like grounds and views” and miles of hiking trails, yurts and cabins.

Stout told the SF port: ‘Lupin offers a family-friendly place to genuinely connect with other people and practice body positivity.

“Many people feel a lot of freedom to be naked and let go of their body shame.”

She and her late husband Glyn took over the sprawling estate in 1977. Stout has managed the resort alone since his death in 2015.

During that time, she has been inundated with unsolicited purchase offers, meaning she can be “picky” about the future owner, she said.

Nudists have long been drawn to this retreat for its proximity to nature and its famous hiking trail that offers views of the San Andres Fault, against a backdrop of Santa Cruz Mountain’s coast redwoods and local wildlife.

‘Lupos is primarily an outdoor experience, a perfect place to sit back and enjoy the clear mountain air while being in touch with nature – just far enough from urban ‘civilization’ to forget the stress, but close enough for easy access,” the website said.

The accommodation comes complete with a spacious clubhouse restaurant and lounge

Many visitors to the Lupine Lodge are drawn to the resort’s unique landscape and nudist hiking trails

Guests can choose a day pass for $25 to $40 or purchase a monthly membership that can go up to $150

But for rainy days, the resort also has a clubhouse restaurant and lounge.

“This is an incredibly amazing, largely pristine property in Silicon Valley,” Stout added. “It’s an unusually large area.”

Although the site has an extended use permit, potential buyers are advised to contact all government agencies regarding any future developments.

Stout herself has had previous run-ins with authorities, including in 2015 when she was accused of illegally diverting water from a nearby stream into its own systems during a drought.

Stout did not argue for that felony, conspiracy to commit an offense with intent to damage property meaning she accepted the conviction but did not admit guilt.
