This is the one home decor regret almost everyone has: ‘Do not do it’
A book lover has warned of a home furnishing mistake that everyone will regret.
A recent trend is for people to buy book-shaped vases for their bookshelves and store fresh flowers in them.
Sarah, an American woman, revealed that an acquaintance of hers used their vase exclusively religiously and discovered that mold was creeping into every book on the shelf.
“That book-shaped vase that you can put between other books makes your books moldy when you put water or flowers in it,” Sarah said in a TikTok.
‘You will lose your books, don’t put water or flowers in that vase. Use bookmarks or fake flowers; just don’t use flowers.’

The vase is also dangerous because there are two large, flat sides of glass that exert pressure and if the vase becomes too full, the vase can crack.
“It’s too flat and thin, there’s a reason why most vases for flowers are round,” said one commenter.
It is better to place the vase elsewhere as a regular decor piece rather than next to books.
A few shared their experiences with placing plants close to their bookshelves.
“I put a terracotta pot on top of a book and a year later there was a mold circle from the hardcover all the way down,” one person revealed.

“I don’t put real flowers near my books until I’ve dried them completely and there’s no moisture left,” said another.
“Crying in Queensland – my books are shaping up anyway,” said one Australian.
Others offered different ways to style your vases.
‘Lego flowers and light blue, translucent Lego studs!’ said one.
“I was thinking Christmas lights or marbles or something,” another added.
‘I have bookmarks and some stationery in mine, so perfect!’ said a third.
