Popular Channel Ten star LEAVES struggling network in shock

Titus O’Reily has left Channel 10’s The Cheap Seats.

The former company executive was popular with fans for his quirky sports coverage on the comedy show that takes a look at the past week.

O’Reily, whose real name is Alex Twomey, made the announcement on Tuesday’s episode.

After joking with viewers that he left the show because he was “going to jail,” O’Reily thanked co-stars Melanie Brackwell and Tim McDonald and the show’s crew.

“I just want to say that I absolutely love this show and it will go from strength to strength for years to come,” he began.

“I don’t just want to thank you two [Melanie Brackwell and Tim McDonald] but the Working Dog crew and all the people who work here,” he added.

“Most importantly, I want to thank the makeup people because not so many people have worked on one project since the space race to get this face on TV. It’s a modern marvel.’

O’Reily has announced that he plans to move on to other “projects.”

Meanwhile, Brackwell and McDonald responded with their own photo tribute to O’Reily on The Cheap Seats Twitter account on Tuesday.

Some fans expressed their sadness at the news of O’Reily’s resignation, with a message from a viewer on Twitter: “We will miss you Titus O’Reily, really enjoyed your weekly sports updates on The Cheap Seats.”

However, one fan took the opportunity to punch the presenter.

‘Yes! Look, he seems like a nice guy but just comes across as a cardboard cutout in his segments,” they wrote.

It comes after Channel 10 has continued to struggle with low ratings and job cuts for the past 18 months.

Things went so badly at the station in 2022 that management reportedly canceled the staff Christmas party after the network’s disastrous year.

According to an insider, things are “worse than expected” as 10 fiercely battles rival stations in a desperate bid to raise advertising dollars.

Channel 10 has had its worst year ever after a slow and gradual decline that displaced the embattled network as one of Australia’s most popular channels.

The network has fallen behind the ABC as Australia’s fourth most-watched free-to-air network after a year of disastrous ratings and high-profile exits from their top talent.

According to filings with ASIC, the ViacomCBS-owned network posted a net loss for calendar year 2020 of $3.4 million.
