Popular Aussie influencer has serious medical episode in New York after making a common mistake at her hotel
A popular Australian fitness influencer has suffered a medical episode before competing in the New York Marathon.
Laura Henshaw, 31, was almost rushed to hospital after accidentally consuming yoghurt containing cashew nuts.
“I have a nut allergy and I had been drinking these prebiotic yoghurt drinks, they are high in carbohydrates,” Laura explained.
‘I took a sip of it and thought, let me check if there are any notes or traces on it, it’s not worth risking it for the marathon. I look down and see there are cashews in it. I ran to the bathroom and spit it out.”
Laura said that despite taking just one sip, she later started feeling extremely ill, leading her to worry she might be too ill to run the marathon.
‘I almost ended up in hospital and almost didn’t make it to the starting line. “Because I took such a big bite, some of it had gone down my throat, I started feeling so nauseous and later started vomiting,” she said.
Luckily, Laura said an extra hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time made her feel better in the morning and allowed her to successfully complete her run in the world-famous race.
‘I was able to do the marathon! We can laugh now, but I was so sure all night that I wouldn’t succeed. “I am so grateful to be on the starting line,” she added.
