Pop singer Kevin Jonas, member of the hit parade trio the Jonas Brothers, has been treated for skin cancer.
In an Instagram video, the 36-year-old singer, guitarist, actor and reality TV star said he had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma.
“Yes, that’s a real little guy with skin cancer that just started growing,” he says, referring to a mole on his forehead. “And now I have to have surgery to remove it.” He later showed himself driving home after surgery, saying, “Now it’s time to heal, on the way home – get those moles checked, folks.”
The American organization Skin Cancer Foundation wrote in response: “Thank you for raising awareness. Early detection is crucial.”
Basal cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer that starts in the upper layers of the skin and rarely spreads to other parts of the body. It is different from the more serious form of skin cancer, melanoma.
Jonas rose to fame in the late 2000s alongside his brothers Joe and Nick, scoring No. 1 albums in the US in 2008 and 2009 and a successful acting career on Disney Channel. They went on hiatus in 2012, but their 2019 comeback album Happiness Begins returned them to No. 1 in the US and also reached No. 2 in Britain – it included their biggest hit to date, Sucker.
Jonas is married with two children, and in 2022 he and his wife Danielle published a children’s book, There a Rock Concert in My Bedroom.
