Ohio’s former Republican governor has said he believes a secret plot could be underway that would see Democrats replace Biden as the party’s presidential nominee before the November election.
John Kasich, whose own half-hearted bid for the presidency ended in failure in 2016, said he believes poor polling data combined with Biden’s poor performance at public speaking events have given Democrats a reason to look for an alternative candidate.
Kasich, 72, made the claims Friday evening on the Democratic-leaning MSNBC.
“I’m starting to wonder if there’s a real possibility that Joe Biden won’t be the Democratic nominee,” Kasich began.

Kasich publicly cited poor polling and Biden’s weak performance
“The fact that the economy isn’t working, the fact that people are saying it’s a terrible economy for them, the fact that they’ve said they don’t have any confidence that Joe Biden can fix it, his public appearances haven’t been bad. That’s good, and now they have agreed to two debates, which are as broad as possible.’
Host Jose Diaz-Balart remained incredulous as he demanded to know where the governor had come up with such information.
“Governor, where did this come from?” Diaz-Balart asked.
“I see what these numbers are like, Jose,” Kasich said. “I mean, you had a poll, that poll in Siena, that said last week that not only did they think he couldn’t fix the economy — and they gave Trump a lead over him — but they also said they weren’t sure he would. as competent as Trump.”

Kasich said he is also concerned about Biden’s poll numbers lagging in key swing states
“I mean, these are really significant numbers,” Kasich continued, citing polls that suggest so Trump is currently beating Biden in swing states.
Aside from polling information, Kasich said he has had conversations with “a lot of people” that he believed further support his claim.
Kasich also shared his concerns about the two planned presidential debates.
“I don’t know how that’s going to go, and I’m just now starting to wonder,” he said.

Despite running as a Republican in the past, Kasich supported Biden in 2020 and warned Americans at the time not to go down the “wrong path” with Trump.
Kasich has again endorsed Biden for re-election this time.
Kasich believes Biden’s public appearances are “just not working,” and is frustrated in his interpretation of the economy, spending “all this time talking about ‘Bidenomics’ and saying, oh no, everything has been great.”
