According to Sports Center, FIFA’s president of referees Pierluigi Collina selected Marciniak for the World Cup final at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.
Collina was impressed with the 41-year-old’s performances during the tournament in Qatar and felt he was the best man for the job.
Marciniak was responsible for refereeing France’s 2-1 win over Denmark in the group stage and Argentina’s 2-1 win against Australia in the round of 16.

However, Liverpool fans were less than impressed with his performance and took to social media after the match to criticize him.

They expressed their frustration over a series of calls made by Marciniak, including his decision to show Joe Gómez a yellow card for a foul on Atlético striker Álvaro Morata.

Meanwhile, @The_Kopinion said: ‘This is one of the worst referees I’ve ever seen, he shouldn’t be anywhere near this level of play.’
As the final whistle blew, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was seen protesting with referee Marciniak.
