Police ‘still probing death of S Club’s Paul Cattermole’ – even though star died of natural causes

Police are ‘still investigating the death of S Club’s Paul Cattermole’ – even after it was revealed that the 46-year-old singer died of natural causes just two months after the pop band announced a reunion tour

Police are investigating the death of S Club’s Paul Cattermole, even after the singer was found to have died of natural causes, according to reports.

Dorset Coroner’s Office revealed today that there would be no investigation into the star’s death, whose body was discovered just two months after he and the band announced they would be embarking on a reunion tour this fall.

A spokesman for the office said confirmation of Cattermole’s cause of death meant the investigation was “closed.”

Dorset Police, who found him dead in his ground floor apartment in Wareham on April 6, told the Sun newspaper, their investigations remain ‘ongoing’. This has not yet been confirmed by MailOnline.

Cattermole, who made a living as a tarot card reader after leaving the group in 2002, is said to have been “in good spirits” when he was spotted days earlier in a park close to his home.

A spokeswoman for Dorset’s Coroner’s Office said earlier today: ‘We confirm that Mr Cattermole has died of natural causes and our investigation has been completed. Since his death was a natural death, there will be no inquest.’

His ex-girlfriend and fellow S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt is said to be ‘in pieces’ after she was told the news.

After his death, the band was renamed S Club. Hannah has withdrawn from the tour.

His family and S Club released a joint statement announcing his sad passing.

They said: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole.

Paul was found yesterday, April 6, 2023, at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Although the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances.

“Paul’s family, friends and fellow S Club members are asking for privacy at this time.”

The band paid tribute to Cattermole on social media. They wrote alongside a black and white photo of him in the band’s heyday, “We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have him in our lives and are thankful for the great memories we have.

“He will be so greatly missed by all of us.”

Sources close to the band say he was “excited” about their upcoming reunion tour and focused on getting fit for rehearsals that were due to begin in early summer.

While Cattermole was excited about his return to the spotlight, The Daily Mail was told his bandmates were worried about him as he seemed very quiet.

Meanwhile, insiders say the group is now determined to continue with their 11 concerts in the fall in tribute to Cattermole.

One of them said, “A dark cloud has fallen over the reunion, it should have been such a happy event, but how wonderful it would be to remember Paul.”
