Police sign abandoned narco-submarine ‘ghost ship’ found off the coast of Spain
Raiders of the lost narc: Police council found abandoned narco-submarine ‘ghost ship’ off the coast of Spain – a day after drug criminals’ underwater ship with bodies on board was discovered off the coast of Colombia
Police have boarded an abandoned narco-submarine ‘ghost ship’ found off the Spanish coast – a day after another underwater ship was discovered with bodies aboard off the coast of Colombia.
The 50ft semi-submersible was spotted on Monday in Vilagarcia de Arousa, off the coast of the northern province of Pontevedra in Spain’s Galicia region.
The footage shows only the bow of the vessel emerging from the waves and authorities inspecting the vessel, which was in a near-vertical position.
It is unclear whether there are still narcotics on board or whether it was deliberately sunk after the cargo was discharged.
The Guardia Civil said: ‘Our colleagues from the GEAS (Special Group of Underwater Activities) are trying to retrieve it.’

Divers examined the submarine underwater
Spanish media reported that authorities struggled to open the hatch to the ship and were working to surface the submarine despite choppy waters and bad weather conditions.
Underwater footage filmed by divers also shows the narco submarine underwater.
Footage taken from a helicopter shows authorities boats swarming around the submarine.
In a statement, Galicia’s local government said: “The sub-deputy of the government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, flew this morning to the area where the submarine was located, in Vilaxoan, in the Arousa Ria area.
It also monitors the operations carried out in the port by the Spanish Civil Guard and the National Police. The Maritime Safety and Rescue Society is also working in the area.’
This discovery of a narc submarine comes just days after the Colombian navy seized a 14-meter submarine with more than 2.6 tons of cocaine and two dead bodies on board in the Pacific Ocean on Sunday.

When searching, authorities also found two survivors receiving life-saving medical care on a nearby ship.
Video footage captured the moment when officers unloaded the submarine and laid down a significant amount of cocaine they had seized.
Colombian authorities trying to unravel the mystery believe the two killed crew members may have died from inhalation of toxic gas.
Spanish media reports that the submarine was one of three submarines seized by Colombian officials – all believed to have belonged to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
