A policewoman was attacked and mauled by a dog during an arrest before another officer shot the animal dead.
The officer suffered multiple injuries to her legs and hand on Tuesday when police took a man in his 30s into custody at a house in Perth's northeastern suburbs.
The man was also bitten on the leg and he and the officer were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to a hospital for further treatment.
“A male police officer fatally shot the dog to prevent further harm to those present,” a Western Australian Police spokesperson said.
The dog was not owned by the injured man and the incident is under investigation.
