Sydney Harbour Bridge crash: All lanes closed – causing traffic chaos

One man has died and another has been taken to hospital after a major crash brought traffic to a standstill in both directions on the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Emergency services received reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the bridge around 1.40pm on Thursday and discovered three cars and a bus had collided.

NSW Police confirmed one man tragically died at the scene, while another was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

All lanes in both directions were closed before a rescue helicopter landed on the bridge just after 2 p.m.

Paramedics remain on scene to assess a ‘number of other patients’.

Fortunately, there were no passengers on the bus and the driver was able to walk away unharmed.

Cars were stopped on the bridge as traffic slowly flowed into the only open northbound lane.

Commuters have been warned to ‘avoid the area and use an alternative route if possible’.

“The Sydney Harbor Tunnel remains open in both directions but traffic is heavy,” Live Traffic NSW wrote to X.

All lanes are closed in both directions on the Sydney Harbor Bridge while emergency services attend a multi-vehicle crash on the deck of the bridge.

There’s more to come.
