Police officer is seriously injured in suspected hit-and-run

A police officer has been seriously injured in a suspected collision in Perth.

The 40-year-old officer was hit by a Toyota HiLux at a roundabout in Redcliffe at around 5pm.

He tried to talk to the driver, who had stopped, when the car sped away and struck the officer, Western Australia police said.

About 15 minutes later, the car crashed in Bellevue and a man in his 40s was arrested.

It is unclear whether the officer was deliberately run over.

“The police officer suffered serious injuries in the incident and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA,” a police spokesperson said.

His condition is now stable.

The police are investigating.
