Police officer seriously injured after being shot in the neck during firearms training at Brisbane’s Pistol Club in Belmont

A police officer has been rushed to hospital after being shot during a firearms exercise.

The Senior Constable, believed to be in his 30s, was hit in the neck by gunshot residue bee Brisbane‘s Pistol Club in Belmont about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Queensland Police said another officer shot a metal pole during routine training, which shattered and struck the Moreton District Senior Constable.

A police spokesman said a stray bullet

A police spokesman said a stray bullet “struck a metal bar on the target, causing a small piece of metal to ricochet and strike the trainer in the right side of the neck.”

The incident occurred when the Senior Constable was “providing supervision as part of his rifle supervisor requalification training”, a police spokesman said.

Paramedics took the Senior Constable to Princess Alexandria Hospital with neck injuries and he is now in stable condition.

Support is now being provided to all officers involved in the incident.
