A young man has criticized police after being dragged from his blue Hyundai during a dramatic daylight arrest and punched and kicked by several officers.

Riley James McBride, 21, claims he cooperated with Queensland police during his arrest in Logan, south of Brisbane, on Thursday.

The claims come after McBride pleaded guilty to several offenses at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday, including dangerous driving and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Dramatic footage of the arrest outside a gas station showed two officers pulling McBride out of his Hyundai before it rained blows to his head and chest.

As another officer joins the scuffle, McBride is tackled to the ground.

‘They put their knees against my head [and put my] face to the ground, they kept hitting it and hitting me and I obeyed them,” McBride shared 7News.

“I tried to do what they asked of me and they were relentless.”

McBride said his arm and the side of his face were now swollen after the incident.

Queensland Police said the Woodridge man was seen allegedly driving dangerously on Lake Road and threw a knife at an off-duty officer.

“I threw a piece of metal at him, he thinks I threw a knife at him,” McBride said.

Officers tracked McBride to a gas station on Compton Road, where police claimed he collided with two vehicles, including a police car, as he attempted to flee.

Queensland Police said an off-duty officer saw the Woodridge man driving dangerously on Lake Road and would later claim he threw a knife at him

“In a subsequent search of the vehicle, the police allegedly found a number of weapons,” a police statement said.

McBride was charged with one charge each of dangerous use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of police, possession of contaminated property and learner driver driving unaccompanied and without L plates.

The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to all offenses and was fined $500.

Police will continue to investigate the case while the investigation is ongoing.
