Police are investigating the ‘sudden’ death of a ‘beautiful and bubbly’ 14-year-old schoolgirl, whose body was found in a farmhouse.

It is still unknown how Summer Sheppard died in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, in November last year.

Yesterday, Nottinghamshire Police, which launched a high-level investigation into her death, refused to say whether crime had been ruled out as the cause of her death.

It also refused to say why there was a five-week period before the inquest into her death was opened.

Friend Julia Flanagan has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for her mother and family.

She described Summer as “beautiful and vibrant.”

“Jenna and her husband Glen have had a turbulent year and are just starting to get life back on track.

‘Glen had recovered from recent surgery after several delays and was preparing to return to work as normal when tragedy struck the entire family.’

But she said Glen received a life-changing diagnosis after the surgery.

Ms Flanagan added: ‘Whatever challenges they thought they would face, nothing could prepare them for what was to come.

“Summer, beautiful and vibrant, died early Tuesday morning (November 28, 2023). A loss that no parent or family should ever experience.”

An inquest in Salisbury, Wiltshire, found the cause of death was unknown.

Summer Rocio Sheppard was found dead at 7.55am on November 28 in a detached house on a farm in Cotgrave, where she was staying with her mother.

Summer was identified by her mother, who was not named.

The investigation was postponed to a date to be determined.

She lived with her mother for several weeks after moving from Swindon, Wiltshire.
