Police investigate death of British six-month-old baby who choked on ‘food or similar’ in Turkish five-star hotel during family holiday

Police are investigating the death of a six-month-old British baby girl after she allegedly suffocated at a five-star Turkish holiday resort.

Elizabeth Coffey was rushed to hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing when “food or something” got stuck in her throat.

Parents Michael and Elizabeth Coffey had vacationed with their daughter and 30 relatives at the Land of Legends Kingdom Hotel in Serik, southern Turkey.

The six-month-old baby developed breathing difficulties on Saturday morning. After the family raised the alarm, a medical team was quickly dispatched to the hotel.

After being rushed to Aspendos Anatolia Private Hospital, Elizabeth would not respond. Despite all the efforts of the medical staff, the doctors were unable to save her life.

Elizabeth Coffey was rushed to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties when “food or something” got stuck in her throat, the hospital said.

It is unclear whether she was suffering from any illness before her death.

A hospital employee told me The sun: ‘The hotel staff called the ambulance when the baby had trouble breathing.

“She was taken to the hospital by the first responders. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, she could not be saved.

“The doctor who treated her said food or something like that got stuck in the baby’s throat and she couldn’t breathe.”

Friends and family have since paid tribute to the little girl on social media. Kitty Margaret wrote on Facebook, “Can’t believe this rest in peace girl. Please, God comfort her mom and dad. Feel so heartbroken for them.”

Another wrote: “RIP little Princess Elizabeth. Absolutely too good for this evil world, the most harmless child in the world [the world]. Keep Uncle Jimmy’s Michael and Elizabeth and family in prayer.”

Others said, “Rest in peace angel,” and, “This is so sad, little angel.”

The six-month-old baby’s body was sent to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
