Two reasons this cop who crashed into a Honda on his way to an emergency could be in big trouble
- Police car collided with a courier driver at an intersection
- No lights or sirens on, investigation ongoing
A courier driver has been hit by a police car that flew through a intersection without the vehicle’s emergency lights or sirens on.
The 26-year-old policeman was ‘on his way to work’ in Mount Pritchard in southwest of Sydney, when his BMW Highway Patrol car collided with another vehicle at around 3:00pm on Thursday.
In footage captured by a security camera from a nearby home, the courier driver’s silver Honda Jazz is seen driving down the street toward a four-way intersection.
From the side street, the patrol car, with no lights or sirens activated, flies past the stop sign without slowing.
The two cars collide with a loud crash as the driver’s-side rear of the Honda Jazz collapses.
The hatchback then spins out of control before hitting a curb and coming to a dead stop.
The police car brakes suddenly on impact and only when the vehicle comes to a stop do the emergency lights come on.
Fortunately, the courier avoided any injury after narrowly escaping the brunt of the collision.
The police officer was transported to Liverpool Hospital with a sore arm but has since been released.
“We were upside down, having a little lunch with a guy, and then we heard a bang,” a neighbor told 9News.
