Police: 3 killed, 6 wounded in ‘exchange of gunfire’ during gathering in Philadelphia; no arrests

PHILADELPHIA — Three men were killed and at least six others were wounded in an early morning shooting at a gathering in West Philadelphia, authorities said.

According to police, more than 100 people were in the Carroll Park neighborhood when gunfire broke out around 2 a.m. Sunday. Police said their preliminary information indicated “a multi-party gunfight” and that more than one caliber of shell casings were found.

A 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and two other men, ages 23 and 29, were pronounced dead later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, police said in a statement. Their names were not immediately released. A 26-year-old woman and five men, ages 27 to 30, were listed in stable condition, police said.

Inspector DF Pace told reporters at the scene that at least 25 to 30 spent shell casings had been found. He said the man who was pronounced dead at the scene had been shot at close range and that it appeared he had been targeted.

According to Pace, it is unclear whether a neighborhood party was being held or whether those attending were simply invited to the scene of the crime.

Police said at least one weapon was recovered. Officers were looking for surveillance footage of the shooting. No arrests were immediately reported.
