Poignant reason multimillionaire country star Garth Brooks lives like he has no money

Despite being a multimillionaire, country star Garth Brooks has decided to live as if he has no money.

The 62-year-old musician is said to be worth around $430 million thanks to his impressive music career, lucrative Las Vegas residencies and successful record label.

But a source recently said Radar online that despite all the success he has achieved in the industry over the decades, he still enjoys a ‘simple life’ without fancy outings, expensive restaurants or material goods.

“Garth borders on obsessive when it comes to living a simple life. It stems from his humble upbringing in Oklahoma,” they explained.

“He has learned that no one is better than anyone else and he is almost ashamed of all the attention and adoration he receives.”

Garth grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and openly shares how much his quiet childhood shaped him.

“If you grew up in Oklahoma, you grew up with everything you need. There’s a rightness and a goodness that you can’t find anywhere else,” he said earlier.

Garth, the youngest of six, had a father who worked for an oil company, while his mother was an aspiring singer, and his sister Betsy, revealed in the past that they grew up ‘downright poor’.

The insider added that performing in front of tens of thousands of fans on tour might go to some people’s heads, but that Garth has never developed a “big ego.”

“You have to have a big ego to get up on stage and entertain 75,000 fans at a show, but when he’s not performing he just picks up a pin and pops his ego balloon,” they said.

Another source told the publication that Garth, who has daughters Taylor (32), August (30) and Allie (28) with ex-wife Sandy Mahl, will do anything to prevent his children from growing up in luxury.

In fact, they said he had not given them much of his vast fortune, and had even forced them to get jobs on their own when they were teenagers.

“Garth felt the best way to show his love for his daughters was not to spoil them or cater to their wishes,” the source explained.

“While they were in high school, he insisted they take menial jobs to earn money.”

After divorcing Sandy in 1999, Garth married country singer Trisha Yearwood in 2005.

They added: 'He has learned that no one is better than anyone else and he is almost ashamed of all the attention and adoration he receives.' He was seen with two of his daughters in 2002.

And the insider said Garth and his wife were on the same page when it came to their stances on money.

“Trisha doesn’t complain at all about Garth’s frugal ways. They really are two peas in a pod when it comes to not flaunting their wealth,” they added.

Garth spent years trying to break into the music industry and was rejected by several labels until a stroke of luck caught the attention of Lynn Shults, president of Capitol Records.

He previously told Billboard that Lynn had gone to a Nashville bar to meet someone who “never showed up” when he saw Garth perform onstage.

“When my performance was over, Lynn was waiting outside the stage. What he said … would change my life forever,” the singer recalled.

He said, “Maybe we missed something here. Come to the label tomorrow. Let’s talk.”

His debut album was released in 1989 and immediately made him a huge star.

Since then he has released no fewer than 16 albums, nine of which have been certified diamond.
