PNC Bank shutters 19 branches in a single WEEK as US Bank, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America also close locations – is your local affected?

Seven banks filed last week to close 42 branches, leaving a growing number of Americans with limited access to basic financial services.

PNC Bank filed 19 files with the regulator between November 12 and 18.

Of those closures, five will impact Pennsylvania. Four were registered in Illinois and three in Texas, according to data published by the Office of the Comptroller of the Monet (OCC).

US Bank announced the second-highest number of closures and notified the agency of plans to eliminate seven locations – three of which are in Tennessee.

JPMorgan Chase requested to close four branches, but offset these closures by notifying the OCC of plans to open an additional twelve branches.

Citizens Bank has filed to close six branches, all of which are in New York State.

Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase said they would each close four locations, while Huntington and Sterling each reported just one closure.

In October, Huntington filed to close 26 locations in the Midwest.

According to its website, Starling Bank and Trust has nearly 30 branches, most of which are in California.

Although Chase filed to close four branches, it more than offset the closures by notifying the OCC of plans to open twelve more. The only other bank to notify the regulator of a new branch was First National.

When most banks close a branch, they must notify the regulator, the OCC.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, an agency spokesperson said: “The OCC understands the importance of bank branches and is committed to supporting access to banking services in all communities.”

The watchdog also noted that while banks and credit unions must notify the “primary regulator of closures,” the law requiring them to do so does not allow the regulator to object.

Sterling Bank has filed to close just one branch in San Francisco, P

This year alone, a total of 1,144 national and regional banks in 49 states closed between Jan. 1 and July 31, according to S&P data reviewed by DailyMail.com.

These latest closures come after an exclusive DailyMail.com poll found that 51 percent of consumers said they were very or somewhat concerned about the declining number of bank branches.

The study also found that physical services were less accessible to Black Americans. While 14 percent of black Americans said they don’t have a local chapter, only 8 percent of white Americans did.
