‘Larger towels and plus-sized bathrobes’: Size 20 influencer reveals how hotels and airlines could make BIGGER travellers more comfortable (and the countries that give curvier visitors a warm welcome)

A plus-size travel blogger who goes on holiday ‘at least once a month’ has shared the changes she wants to see in the travel industry to make it more inclusive for larger people, including steps airlines and hotels could take to accommodate more guests receive.

Emily Jones, who posts about her jet-set lifestyle to 332,000 Instagram followers @Mrs Jones, said that when it comes to hotels, it’s the little things that make the difference.

She noted, β€œA small change that would make people feel more comfortable is offering larger towels and bathrobes in a larger size.

β€œThis would make the stay for plus-size people so much more comfortable and inclusive.”

The size 20 Instagrammer, who splits her time between Malta, Britain and Helsinki, wants airlines to make it easier for passengers too, starting with making the process of boarding a flight simpler and clearer for those who need adjustments.

She told MailOnline: ‘It would be great if airlines could announce during boarding that if someone needs a seat belt extension, they are available.

‘From my experience and what people tell me in my online posts, asking for an extension is a big fear for plus-size people. I would like to see this destigmatized so that people can travel comfortably and without additional fear.”

Seat belt extensions are available from most airlines and consist of a snap-on, adjustable part of the seat belt that extends the distance the belt can extend before fastening.

Earlier this year, curvy influencer Gracie Bon, 26, called on airlines to make plane seats bigger as she claims she can’t fit her bum in them.

It seems Emily agrees.

When asked about the biggest challenge the curvy influencer faces while traveling, she said, β€œI think airplane seats are notoriously uncomfortable for most plus-size people.

“Plus, there are definitely countries that aren’t used to plus-size people, so you might get some uncomfortable looks.”

For plus-size travelers looking to book their next trip, Emily has some suggestions for which countries are easiest to navigate in the grand scheme of things – and which pose more of a challenge.

Emily commented: ‘The UK is really inclusive and makes things the most comfortable in my opinion.

‘The Maldives were difficult because the seaplanes are very small. I haven’t explored much more of Asia yet, but understand that some areas may be uncomfortable for plus size people.’

Emily also recommended a destination in Africa that she said was a good experience for her.

She commented: ‘I recently visited the Seychelles and had an amazing trip.

‘The nature of the islands is incredible, but the friendly and hospitable people really made it one of the best places I’ve ever been! I would highly recommend it.’

As part of her encouragement to other plus-size people, Emily takes to Instagram to share video clips of herself enjoying glamor hotels, luxury pools and sandy beaches.

In one clip, in which she wears a brightly colored swimsuit, the influencer said: ‘This is your Sunday reminder that you and your stretch marks, loose skin, double chin and small belly deserve to see the world and enjoy fun things just as much if anyone else does. You belong!’

And she told MailOnline: ‘I would like to encourage people of all shapes and sizes not to let their insecurities hold them back, and remind people that life is short and they deserve to be in these spaces just the same. are like in those perfect spaces. people are watching on Instagram!’

On that topic, Emily also wants to improve the ‘representation’ of larger holidaymakers in travel media.

She added: ‘More than anything I’d like to see a bit more diversity in travel media – we’re so used to seeing only one type of look in travel ads and on Instagram, and as a plus size woman I would excited to see a little more representation, especially in luxury travel.”
