‘Please don’t bankrupt us’: Buffalo Wild Wings taunts Red Lobster as it announces eye-catching $20 all-you-can-eat deal

Buffalo Wild Wings has announced an all-you-can-eat wing deal, while also poking fun at Red Lobster.

The Atlanta-based chain announced a new promotion in a social media post that also appeared to take a shot at Red Lobster, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.

Buffalo Wild Wings, which has 1,300 outlets, posted a photo announcing that unlimited wings and boneless fries will be available to dine-in customers on Mondays and Wednesdays — for $19.99.

The caption read: “Please don’t bankrupt us.”

The seafood chain offered a similar endless $20 shrimp promotion, which bosses are now blaming for mounting losses.

Red Lobster filed for bankruptcy earlier this month after announcing last week that it would close nearly 100 restaurants in 27 states.

The company blames the endless shrimp deal, which was a once-a-year fixture until it was made permanent in 2023.

Although the promotion attracted more customers to restaurants, it resulted in millions of dollars in losses because it was simply too cheap.

Seafood lovers devouring plates of shrimp were the main reason Thai Union, Red Lobster’s majority owner, lost $11 million in just three months after the deal was made final in June 2023.

Ludovic Garnier, chief financial officer at Thai Union, said: “We knew the price was cheap, but the idea was to attract more visitors to the restaurants.”

“So we wanted to increase our traffic, but it didn’t work.”

The seafood restaurant chain said in a lawsuit late Sunday that it has more than 100,000 creditors and an estimated net worth of between $1 billion and $10 billion.

The bankruptcy filing was signed by CEO Jonathan Tibus, a corporate restructuring specialist who took the top position at Red Lobster in March.

Buffalo Wild Wings is taking precautions with its all-you-can-eat offering to avoid falling into the same trap.

According to the company’s social media post, the offer is limited to one person per order and cannot be shared.

Taxes, fees and service will incur additional charges and the promotion is not available in conjunction with any other offer. It runs until July 10.

Leftovers should also not be taken home ‘to go’, according to Buffalo Wild Wings.
