PlayStation Plus subscribers will get Suicide Squad and two great remasters in January

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was one of two high-profile, high-profile failures of live service games in 2024. But unlike Sony, which unceremoniously shut down Treaty and swept it under the rug when it became clear that the hero shooter wasn’t turning out well, WB Games seems happy to try anything to get more people to play Rocksteady Games’ joke about the DC supervillain team.

After trying out 95% off Steam in November, Suicide squad will be free for one month from January 7 to all PlayStation Plus subscribers. It’s one of the three free monthly games offered as part of PlayStation Plus Essential in January, the others are Need for Speed Hot Pursuit remastered And The Parable of Stanley: Ultra Deluxe.

This is actually a pretty tasty trio. Suicide squadfor all the fuss and disappointment surrounding it, it’s a not-unenjoyable blockbuster romp that takes some wild swings in narrative throughout its now-complete four-season run. The game will be available on PS5 for PS Plus subscribers.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit remastered is the 2020 remaster of the classic 2010 Criterion Games racer – the Burnout developer’s first entry in the Need for Speed series, and still arguably the best. It’s all about high-speed police chases across a beautiful open world map with a West Coast vibe. It’s available on PS4 (and playable on PS5, of course).

The Parable of Stanley: Ultra Deluxe is the 2022 expanded remake of the 2013 metafictional indie game. No spoilers, but it’s a fascinating and funny exploration of the choice – or lack thereof – in the relationship between a game’s creators and its players. It is available in both PS4 and PS5 versions.

All three games can be downloaded for free for PlayStation Plus members until February 3.

From now until January 6, this is your last chance to download December’s monthly PS Plus games: co-op megahit It takes two, Aliens: Dark OriginsAnd Tame.
