PlayStation Plus may start adding a brilliant feature to its games

Sony has revealed that it can breathe new life into old games by retroactively adding achievements to games on PlayStation Plus. The PSP classic Super Stardust wearable trophies have been added to the subscription service, and hopefully this is the start of a rewards revolution.
While intergalactic warfare game Super stardust initially had no trophies, Sony has said that this need not remain the case when a retro game is made available on PS5. On a PlayStation Plus developer blog (opens in new tab), said Sony, “some original PlayStation and PSP titles may offer trophies … this feature is optional for developers”. It also listed games like The escape of primates, Hot Shots waveand IQ Intelligent Qube as potential retro games to which this great feature could be added.
Since this appears to be a developer decision, there’s no promise we’ll see trophies added to all of our beloved retro games. As Ed Nightingale from Eurogamer pointed out (opens in new tab), LocoRocoanother PSP game from a similar first-party studio still lacks trophy support.
Classic fun
Even without trophies, there are many great games to enjoy on PlayStation Plus. Premium subscribers have the pleasure of having the classic catalog at their fingertips. With this you get Yakuza 3, 4, and 5, Castlevania: Lords of the Shadowand my favourite, Limbo.
Although I am a little shocked Limbo being in the classic category i ignore the rapid passage of time and focus on how great this game was and still is. Because after all, this spider-infested game has all the trophies to please your achievement-hunting brain.
Limbo is a 2D side-scrolling puzzle platformer developed by Playdead and released in 2010. In this dark and gloomy horror game, you must navigate the horrific world populated by giant, man-hungry spiders and monolithic deep-sea monsters so that you can find your sister.
This puzzle game wasn’t groundbreaking in terms of graphics or story, but Playdead understood the puzzles were in it Limbo, accompanied by the unique art style would be what made this gem stand out. Knowing what this game could achieve and making it happen made me feel like I enjoyed the game even more.
While I don’t think achievements are critical to enjoying a game, adding retro PlayStation Plus games would be a fantastic feature. Hopefully it breathes life into old games that are as replayable as Limbo is.
