The free Essential games for PlayStation Plus subscribers for the month of June are available SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shock, AEW fights foreverAnd Streets of Anger 4, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced this on Tuesday. Players can download the trio of games from Tuesday, June 4.
Sony unveiled the June 2024 monthly free PS Plus games as part of a larger Days of Play announcement, in which the company promised deals on PlayStation hardware and games, as well as bonus titles for the PlayStation Plus games catalog. Matchdays 2024 runs from May 29 to June 12.
June’s free monthly games for PS Plus Essential are starting SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shock, the platformer adventure game where SpongeBob and Patrick grant Mermaid’s Tears’ wishes and shatter reality. The duo dons different themed costumes to conquer medieval, western and prehistoric worlds.
AEW fights forever is the wrestling arcade style game that allows players to mix it up as All Elite Wrestling superstars or play as their own custom wrestler. It’s the only place you can get your Exploding Barbed Wire Death match fix on PlayStation this summer.
Streets of Anger 4 is the must-play side-scrolling belt-action beat-’em-up from Sega and developers LizardCube, Guard Crush and DotEmu. Streets of Anger 4 has breathed new life into the Genesis-era franchise with the return of fan-favorite characters, great music and combo-focused gameplay. As Polygon editor-in-chief Chris Plante said in his review of the 2020 game: “Streets of Anger 4 is everything I could have wanted from a true Streets of Rage sequel. I am satiated.”
PlayStation Plus subscribers can still pick up May’s PlayStation Plus Essential games – EA SportsFC24, Ghost runner 2, TunicAnd Destination 2: Lightfall – until June 3. (Actually, soccer fans can get their hands on EA’s FIFA replacement until June 18.)
SIE is also filling the PS Plus game catalogue, accessible to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, with a bunch of new games. In the PlayStation VR 2 catalogue, Premium subscribers will have access to the following games from June 6:
- Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord
- Walkabout mini golf
- Synth riders
- Before your eyes
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapters 1 and 2
Premium subscribers also get access to the following PlayStation 2 games:
- Tomb Raider Legend
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars
- Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
While Extra and Premium subscribers will get access to the following games in the coming weeks:
- Dredging (PS4, PS5) – available May 29
- Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 (PS4) – available May 31
- Cricket 24 (PS4, PS5) – available from June 5
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition (PS4, PS5) – available from June 7
PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest tier available in Sony Interactive Entertainment’s subscription service. It offers online multiplayer access, a monthly range of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 per year, $24.99 for a three-month subscription, or $9.99 per month – a price that went up last August.
