PlayStation 5 Pro will be a ‘huge’ technological leap with 8K resolutions and artificial intelligence in time for the release of GTA6, experts say

  • According to experts, the updated PS5 will represent a leap in console power
  • A so-called ‘specification leak’ speaks of a vastly improved graphics processing unit
  • The new model will be released just in time for Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025

The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro will boast a ‘huge’ leap in console power, experts claim.

The upgraded console will be released later this year, but supposed elements of its makeup are already being shared online.

Sony’s new unit is expected to arrive just in time for one of the biggest game releases of the coming years – with Grand Theft Auto 6 promised for 2025.

Insider gaming revealed a number of headlines for the PS5 Pro, the main one being ’45 percent faster rendering than PS5′ thanks to a revamped graphics processing unit (GPU).

The leak also mentions 8K resolutions and artificial intelligence.

The main reason for excitement among gamers is a greatly improved graphics processing unit (GPU)

As for the CPU (central processing unit), it remains unchanged from the original PS5, but an all-new ‘high frequency’ mode will give the CPU more power, at the cost of one percent lower GPU performance.

On the other hand, this mode increases CPU power by 10 percent.

Hard drive storage will also increase. The PS5 Pro is said to have a one-terabyte hard drive, compared to 825 gigabytes for the original PS5.

To further improve the graphics, ray tracing – used in modern games to deliver high-quality visuals – would get a massive boost of two to four times that of the base PS5 model.

And it is said that the total power comes in from the GPU 33.5 teraflops of power, more than three times as much as the original 2020 machine, with 8K resolution.

One notable specification mentions ‘custom machine learning architecture’.

Sony has been contacted for comment regarding the ‘leak’.

Rob Dwiar, van TechRadarsaid of the GPU improvements: “This is a huge leap and represents something we could see generation over generation rather than something incremental like we saw with the previous generation PS4 Pro.”

It comes just weeks after Sony stated that the current PS5 console is entering ‘the final stages of its life cycle’.

Senior vice president Naomi Matsuoka said the company expects the PS5’s sales pace to start slowing from next month after dominating the console war since its release, selling more than 50 million units in that time.

She said: “Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the final phase of its life cycle.

‘That is why we will place more emphasis on the balance between profitability and turnover.

“For this reason, we expect the annual sales pace of PS5 hardware to start to decline starting next fiscal year.”

Last October, Sony unveiled a new slimmed-down and stripped-down version of the console, which featured a smaller and lighter form factor, as well as a removable drive and one terabyte of additional memory for storage.

Experts suggest the PS6 will release in November 2027 if recent console release patterns continue.
