Players in Baldur's Gate 3's Honor Mode have become softlocked due to Orphic Hammer mishaps

Baldur's Gate 3The hardest difficulty setting, Honor Mode, is incredibly challenging, with tougher bosses, a single save file limit, and the rule that players have to start all over again if their entire team is wiped out. However, players have recently discovered that there is another way to get stuck in a run near the final hurdle.

Since players have encountered this problem in Baldur's Gate 3's third act is impossible to explain without touching on a few spoilers. With that in mind, if you have yet to dive into Act 3 and want to stay completely unspoiled, consider this your final spoiler warning.

This week on Reddit, two separate posts have gotten attention from players who softlocked themselves after trying to save Orpheus but forgot to bring the Orphic Hammer needed to do so. With no way to leave the area and no backup files to load, people get stuck.

User JohnFrum explained that they accidentally left the hammer with Karlach, who they traded out of their group in favor of Lae'zel before leaving. “We are in a red zone, cannot camp and the emperor closed the gate when he left,” they said wrote. “So now we're all just sitting here with (our) farts for company for the rest of the time, I guess.”

Earlier this week, another user had a similar experience after giving the hammer to Shadowheart, who they left at the camp. “The scene with Raphael where you 'misplace' the Orphic hammer was not triggered, and when I approach Orpheus there is only one dialogue option: 1. (end). So now all we have to do is pray that Larian resolves this interaction somehow,” -YeetDabMaster69- said.

The “scene with Raphael” they're talking about is the usual failsafe that should occur if you accept his deal to get the hammer in the first place, and then forget about it. He mocks the player's “feeble-minded negligence” for “almost bringing down the world at the last minute,” and at that point he's supposed to hand the hammer right back to you, making it impossible to leave him behind. It is not clear why the scene did not occur for these two players.

Helpful users have done that too pointed out that if you play the PC version of Baldur's Gate 3 and don't mind using mods, luckily there is a way to put the Orphic Hammer back into your inventory if you forget it, which should resolve the situation. However, as with any unofficial mod, you should be careful before installing anything.
