PLAYER RATINGS: Veteran Mats Hummels shows his class as Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League final… as one PSG star scores just 4.5/10

Borussia Dortmund secured a place in the Champions League final by beating Paris Saint-Germain.

Dortmund had a one-goal lead from the first leg and that was further increased in the 50th minute on Tuesday evening through Mats Hummels.

Despite intense pressure from PSG, Dortmund managed to win 2-0 on aggregate.

Edin Terzic’s team will now face Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the final at Wembley on June 1.

Mail Sport’s Pete Jenson assesses how both players performed.

Borussia Dortmund advanced to the Champions League final by beating PSG

PARIS SAINT GERMAIN (4-2-3-1)

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 5

Huge early save against Adeyemi. But given his size, the turns were so insignificant, and it cost PSG again.

Achraf Hakimi – 5.5

Good early raids down the right, but never with a matching final ball. Dived in late for a penalty as PSG became desperate. Guilty because he tried to pick out Mbappé in the final minutes instead of going for the goal himself.

Achraf Hakimi should have gone for goal late on instead of trying to find Mbappe

Marquinhos – 6

Moved the ball forward quickly. He headed wide after a good ball throw from Kang-In Lee. Tried to hold PSG’s unconvincing defense together.

Lucas Beraldo – 5

Played in place of the injured Luis Hernandez and completely lost Hummels on goal. Position remains a weakness for the French champion.

Nuno Mendes – 7

Won the first one-on-one duel with Sancho. PSG’s best defender and also came forward well.

Warren Zaire-Emery – 6

He lacked conviction when he hit the post from a tight angle at the start of the second half. So young and so promising that his chance to reach a Champions League final will come again.

Hugely talented youngster Warren Zaire-Emery missed an inviting chance to score

Vitinha – 7.5

PSG’s best player. Don’t hit the target frame until late. He drove Luis Enrique’s side forward and did not deserve to be on the losing side.

Fabian Ruiz – 5

He gave the ball away on the first pass and that set the tone of his performance. No surprise when he was substituted early in the second half.

Ousmane Dembele – 7

Always willing to play in Dortmund’s defense and almost win a penalty, but nothing really came out for him. Luckily he escaped a yellow card for an early foul on Maatsen, but was eventually given a warning in the second half.

Goncalo Ramos – 4.5

Lean back and fired forward after Vitinha set it perfectly on the hour. Terrible miss at the worst moment right after Dortmund’s goal. Did the same thing again moments later with his final kick before being taken away.

Goncalo Ramos was guilty of a number of costly misses as PSG were knocked out by Dortmund

Kylian Mbappe – 6

Controlled the ball incorrectly too often in the first half. Dembélé made an unselfish fist before half-time, but became even more desperate after the break. Go late on top of the bar. PSG needed him for a five-star performance. This wasn’t it. A sad au revoir.

Kylian Mbappé regularly miscontrolled the ball in the first half, but hit the crossbar late on

Subs: Bradley Barcola (for Ramos 63) – 6.5

Marco Asensio (for Fabian Ruiz 63) – 6.5

Kang-In Lee (for Zaire-Emery 75) 6.5

Booked:

BORUSSIA DORTMUND (4-2-3-1)

Gregor Kobel – 6

Saved Mbappe’s first shot without spilling the ball. Safe hands during set plays. Saved by the frame of the goal when he was defeated.

Julian Ryerson – 7

Early shot into the side netting. Overall, he dealt well with Mbappe’s threat and turned key early in the first half.

Mats Hummels – 8.5

The only survivor in Dortmund’s starting XI from the last time they were in the final and what an achievement to get there again. Aim well taken. Always plays; always class. A second-half foul on Demble was also clever, just inches outside the area.

Nico Schlotterbeck – 7

There was never any panic alongside Hummels and also with Sole in support, as Dortmund only scored late at the back of fifth.

Ian Maatsen – 7.5

Carries the ball forward from the full-back with such a mix of grace and menace. There was also good defense. From Chelsea reserve to Champions League final.

Mats Hummels made good use of his experience and scored as Dortmund prevailed

Former Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen put in an encouraging performance as Dortmund won

Emre Kan – 6.5

I kept it simple and kept things together for Dortmund’s defense. Played his part in the yellow wall that kept PSG out.

Marcel Sabitzer – 6

Booked for a foul in the second half that prevented Barcola from staying clear. Like Can, he must take credit for Dortmund’s defensive record.

Karim Adeyemi – 6.5

Had Dortmund’s first shot, well saved by Donnarumma but no real impact and came on early in the second half.

Julian Brandt – 6.5

Great move for the corner that gave Dortmund the lead on the evening. Found space and made the best of it. Always a threat when PSG moved forward.

Jadon Sancho – 6.5

Some good diagonal runs in the first half. Not the same impact as the first leg, but there was hard work off the ball throughout.

Julian Brandt was able to effectively find space for Dortmund and posed a threat

Jadon Sancho couldn’t match his performance in the first leg, but still worked hard throughout

Niclas Fullkrug – 6

Early shot into the side netting and a lot of hard running.

Subs

Marco Reus (for Adeyemi, 55) – 6.5
